The Byzantine chain design is so unique with an interesting history. Originating in, you guessed it, the Byzantine Empire this complex design of interlocking rings was first used as Chain Maille armor. At some point it transitioned over to jewelry and because of the intricacy of the design, was first worn by the society’s wealthy as a status piece. The design has lasted throughout the centuries and has come to symbolize strength, unity and resilience.
